Genre - A category in which similar films are put into based on the form and content that is used to construct the film.
There are different types of genres which include:
- Comedy
- Action and Adventure
- Horror
- Thriller
- Romance
- Animation
- Sci-fi
Sub Genre - A subcategory within a genre.
For example for a thriller, sub genres may include:
- Action
- Romance
- Mystery
- Pyschological
- Supernatural
- Political
...and many more.
To me personally Action Thrillers inspire me the most because it helps to build excitement inthe movie helping to keep the audiences attention. The non stop excitement and anticipation helps to make the film good, therefore attracting a wider audience. This inspires me because I want my opening to be full of excitement and to attract a wide audience.
Expendables is an example of an Action Thriller which inspires me. Here is the opening sequence:
Target audience - We can get a sense of who the target audience for particular movies are through the poster/cover of the film as well as the opening scenes.
For example; here is a poster for the film expendables:
We can sense that this is targeted for an audience from 16 years and above. This is because of the variety of 'action known' characters used such as Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham. The guns signify that this is an action film. The dark and dull colours show its targeted at boys rather than girls.
