RESEARCH - Conventional order of title sequences

Film openings use a pattern of sequences for the titles, to sell their film whilst crediting the production company/directors/producers/actors/writers etc. The first two credits are the most important credits as they are the reason why the film exists, due to the fact that the film is funded and distributed by these companies. This most common chronological conventional pattern used:
  • Production company ident
  • Distribution icon
  • Production icon
  • Director
  • Actor 1
  • Actor 2
  • Actor 3
  • Film title
  • Other characters
  • Casting
  • Music
  • Costume
  • Editor
  • Production designer
  • Director of photography
  • Executive producers
  • Producers
  • Written by
Here is an example of these being explored in Christopher Nolans film, Memento which was made in the year 2000. This gives a perfect example of the conventional order of title sequences:

This is the Production companies Icon shown at the start of the film. This is to sell the film by starting off crediting the production company. A production company is the company responsible for the development of the new media- this film.

This is the Distributors icon. Distributors are part of the marketing mix. They get the film out there and available for consumers.

Then comes the Production icon. This is the producers names, who made the film and sold it.

Next appears the Directors name. He/She is the main person in charge of the whole film process and they manage the production.

After that the Main Actors name is shown. This is the key character who is most likely to be the protagonist.

Then appears another actors name. This is usually the supporting character along with the main character.

Then another actors name is shown. They are another main character, maybe the antagonist. However a third person's name is not always shown.

Next is the Film title. This is done so the audience is aware what the film is called.

Other actors name.

More actors names.

Extra actors names.

Then the Casting is shown. This is part of the pre-production process.

Next the credits for the music are shown.

Then the credits for Costume designers. They are responsible for the costume of the actors.

Editors credits are then given. Editors are part of the post production process as they do the editing of the film before the release.

Production designer. They are responsible for the overall look of the whole film- settings, costume etc.

Director of photography. Their role is to create the look they want for the film using different resources like ighting, framing, camera movement.

Producers are then credited. They oversee and deliver a film.

Finally it credits Screen Play Writers and in this case the Novel Write.
