RESEARCH - intertextuality

Intertextuality: this is when films 'borrow' ideas from other films and make it there own. Sometimes audience can recognize camera shots, mise en scene, snippets of sounds in certain films which may look familiar from other films.

Here are some examples of intertextuality being used:

In 'psycho' there is a mid shot of a woman showering :

Similarly in 'the roommate' there is also a mid shot of a woman showering:

The idea of the shower curtains being pulled was used in 'psycho' and then it was also used in 'the roommate'.

Another example is off the close up on the shower which was also used first in 'psycho' and then 'the roommate'.
